
Vaman refers to a therapeutic vomiting procedure mentioned in the classics of Ayurveda. Vamana therapy is an Ayurveda detoxification procedure or Panchakarma aimed at expelling accumulated toxins and excess Kapha dosha from the body which can otherwise trigger a series of ailments like acne, asthma, arthritis, chronic cold and diabetes.
Indications (Suggestive for)
Vaman is used to treat various health conditions among them some are as follows-
- Respiratory issues: bronchitis, asthma, and allergies
- Digestive problems: indigestion, nausea, and vomiting
- Skin diseases: eczema, acne, and psoriasis
- Mental health: anxiety, depression, and stress
Procedure
The Vaman procedure involves several steps:
- Pre Procedure-(Preparation of the patient): Patient is administered with medicated ghee or taila (selected depending on the disease of the patient) for min 3 days and maximum 7 days. Every day doses of medicated ghee is increased which is followed by two days whole body massage and whole body medicated steaming.
- Induction: The patient is given a herbal concoction to induce vomiting.
- Vomiting: the patient vomits, releasing excess mucus and toxins from the body.
- Post-procedure: the patient is given rest, hydration, and a light diet to aid in recovery.
Note- During the therapy special diet is planned patient specific also after the completion of therapy another diet is planned for next 3 to 5 days.
